The Hangover was filmed here! Remember one of the actors married the stripper? The hostel was the wedding chapel. It's also the site where the cop car backed through the 'prop' bus stop in an action scene!

Review
Hostel Cat is like a microcosm of Las Vegas itself ... a little bit seedy, a little bit crazy, and a lot of fun.
The Location
Located at the downtown end of Las Vegas Boulevard, Hostel Cat is a long walk (around an hour) from the main bulk of the major hotels/casinos, however it is quite handily on the Deuce bus route that runs twenty-four hours, which goes to Fremont Street in one direction and to the top end of the strip in the other. It is a short walk from the iconic Stratosphere and just across the road from the famous Little White Chapel (should you require a drive-thru wedding at any point during your stay!). It has its own car park and is approximately a twenty-minute walk from the Greyhound terminal.
Rooms and Bathrooms
This hostel isn’t going to win any awards for luxury. Dorms have lockers and shelves for belongings but are a bit scruffy and sleep ten to a room. The beds are standard but fairly comfortable bunk beds with one bathroom (shower, sink, and toilet in the same room) in each dorm. Regardless of the time of day, whether 5 a.m. or 5 p.m., there always seems to be someone monopolising the bathroom and there is only one extra toilet (and no extra showers) located in the main hostel building -- it makes trying to shower and get ready a bit tricky.
As this is Las Vegas, be prepared to have people coming and going at all hours of the day and night (bring earplugs and eye mask!). Rooms have a single, noisy, old air conditioning unit that is right next to some bunks, so people understandably turn it off, leaving you with a pretty stuffy and sweaty sleeping space. Private rooms are also available and are priced at an especially reasonable rate on weekdays.
Common Spaces
Indoor common spaces are limited. There is a small kitchen with very little space to prepare meals and a fairly poor array of basic crockery such as cups and bowls, though plenty of shelving to store your food. There is a make-your-own pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., or you can pay for an egg-and-sausage breakfast later on if you are on “Vegas time.” There is a dining area with computers and vending machines, which leads on to a TV room containing a sofa, book exchange, sofa/bunk bed, and fridges! It’s compact and chaotic but it’s also a lot of fun and a good sociable environment. Wi-Fi only really works in the main building but staff are keen to get you to log off and meet people.
The outside space is huge with one large shaded table/benches, plus a couple of other tables out in the sun, but there could be a lot more in the way of seating to maximise the space. There is a barbecue which is used for hostel-cooked dinners some nights (filling, decent, and balanced meals at a reasonable cost); a stereo; and, oddly, sets of weights for the muscle-conscious.
Summary
The emphasis at Hostel Cat is on being sociable and having fun. There are nightly activities and trips to clubs (sometimes for free or at a low cost) and often sporadic outings during the day, too. Our visit involved a trip to a pool party at one of the big hotels -- the staff know how to get in for free and we just paid a very small fee for them to drive us there.
Staff seem to enjoy working at Hostel Cat and like to party as much as the guests! They are helpful in sharing tips for low-cost activities and can also arrange discounted trips to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam directly from the hostel. If you are traveling alone and looking to make new friends with which to enjoy Las Vegas, then Hostel Cat is an especially good option. If you are on a tight budget, it is also an unbeatable, cheap option (with none of the added resort fees of the hotels, either!).
